To revert or not to revert - that is the question!
Does Cllr Tattersall know what he's talking about?
A few people in Southport (and in particular some rather pushy AWC - supportive Libdem councillors) appear to be claiming that more councils are 'not' reverting back to weekly collections.
For instance Libdem Cllr David Tattersall - the man who
is "Delighted"
about the AWC scheme, recently stated in the Champion newspaper:
"It simply isn't
correct that "more and more" councils are abandoning alternate week rubbish
collection as claimed by John Lee, Southport Party (Champion letters 19
September)."
This claim is highly inaccurate and displays that Cllr. Tattersall's grip on the issue is not what trusting residents would in fact expect it to be, as the following proves:
Reverted Councils (October 2007)
Several councils have already reverted to weekly residual waste collections
following either unsuccessful trials or fully implemented schemes:
Southampton City Council
London Borough of Sutton
Leeds City Council
Plymouth City Council
Chelmsford Borough Council
Nuneaton and Bedworth District Council (3 weeks!)
North Lanarkshire Council
Bury Metropolitan Borough Council
Kirklees Council
Scarborough Borough Council
Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
East Dunbartonshire Council
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council
East Cambridgeshire District Council
Rushmoor Borough Council
Councils reverting to weekly collections for summer months only:
Epping Forest District Council
Gedling Borough Council
Councils introducing weekly food waste collections:
Teignbridge District Council
Eastleigh Borough Council
Decisions to introduce AWCs reversed:
Maidstone Borough Council
Salisbury District Council
That, Cllr Tattersall, is a lot more councils reverting than when you first become so "delighted" about this new scheme in Southport so perhaps you will consider apologising to Mr Lee and the residents of Southport for previous erroneous comments?
Bring sites - unable to meet demand after Sefton Council start new ill-considered AWC scheme
Southportwatch recently reported on Libdem Simon Shaw's - small (Birkdale?) petition "broadly supportive" of AWC scheme. Another petition had over 1000 names against the AWC plan.
The Council report on the topic did NOT indicate that the petition which was
'supportive' of AWC only included some 20 odd names and that the last name on
that list was one 'T, Dawson.' Presumably this was Cllr Shaw’s political
colleague and assistant to John Pugh MP, ‘Tony Dawson’ (SGB poster ‘Tonio’) -
who does not even ‘live’ in the Birkdale area?

Council democracy 'for' the people or Council dictatorship 'against' the people?
The report went on to acknowledge that it had received three petitions (two opposed to AWC and one for it, Cllr. Shaw’s) yet mentioned that it strongly reasserted that AWC should continue. Democracy (which is supposed to be the grounding-base for our society) does not seem to worry the Council junta too much herein.
Perhaps they had already made up their minds to ignore the greater magnitude of resident's concerns herein 'before' petitions were actually presented?
The report claimed that:
the AWC was providing an adequate service to meet family needs
did not present any health hazards to local residents and that it did not create any hazards if householders complied with Council decree on the issue.
All in all, this report indicates that Sefton Council, and the obedient Libdem regime behind it, are steamrollering ahead with the much – hated AWC scheme and paying little more than hollow lip-service to valid growing residential concerns.

Increased fly - tipping and lack of effective price-conscious professional coordination at recycling bank site plants is also an absolute shambles. Moreover, valid health issues expressed in countless areas have yet to be fully addressed. The price of future ramifications surrounding the AWC may be astronomical to the tax payer.
Bill Millburn - Do as we say or else you get fined!
Sefton Council's Environmental Protection Director, Bill Milburn, said:
“Why is the council
introducing this change? It’s not because we’re trying to annoy people. It’s
because we need to recycle more waste."
Sorry Bill but your policies 'are' seriously & blatantly annoying thousands more residents than you possibly think. Many householders still want to know what the hell they are supposed to do with all the excess waste they have to put up with in their gardens etc, since you bright sparks in expensive suits cut our collections down by half. The list of reverting councils is 'growing', like the increasing frustrations of thousands of ordinary residents forced into this contentious AWC scheme by a dictatorial, Council closed-shop and their fortnightly-supportive Libdem puppets in Southport. Other councils (more all the time in fact) are making weekly collections work very well - but inflexible Sefton?
Leading politicians from other parties and independents (like Phil Rodwell of SGB) have now realised that the AWC scheme is badly flawed and spoken out against it.
